The Voice of Jeremiah – God’s Call to Me

The words of The Voice of Jeremiah to whom the word of the Lord came in the days of America: Now the word of the LORD came to me saying,  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and approved of you as My chosen instrument, and before you were born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you; and I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

I answered, “Sovereign Lord, I don’t know how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say that you are too young, but go to the people I send you to, and tell them everything I command you to say.” And “Do not be afraid of them, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

Then the LORD stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me, “Look, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have appointed you this day to stand up against nations and kingdoms. Some you must uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow. Others you must build up and plant.” 

Then the word of the LORD came to me saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree [the emblem of alertness and activity, blossoming in late winter].” Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to see that My words come true.” 

Then word of the LORD came to me a second time saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, and the face of it is tipped away from the north, its mouth about to pour forth on the south.”  Then the LORD said to me, “Out of the north the evil, which the prophets had foretold as the result of national sin, shall disclose itself and break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. For, behold, I am calling all the armies of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD; “and they will come and they will set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Washington, against all its walls round about, and against all the cities of America—as My judicial act, a consequence of America’s wickedness. I will pronounce My judgments against the people of America for all their evil and wickedness, whereby they have abandoned Me and have offered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.” 

“Now, get ready The Voice of Jeremiah!  Stand up and speak to them all that I command you! Do not be intimidated by them and break down at the sight of their faces or I will cause you to cower before them.” 

“Listen The Voice of Jeremiah, I have made you today strong like a fortified city that cannot be captured and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land—against the successive kings of America, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land, giving you divine strength which no hostile power can overcome. They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
