The Problem

The Voice of Jeremiah’s rebuke: America you are a nation that has turned its back on God your Savior and His truth. It is because you have willingly followed false prophets and shepherds who tell you whatever your itching ears want to hear, something pleasing and gratifying.[1] 

America, the false shepherds of your churches have rejected the word of the LORD, so now they have no true wisdom at all.[2] Your false shepherds have lost their senses; they no longer follow God nor ask His will. Therefore, they are perishing, and you are scattering.[3] Your shepherds have abandoned you, America, leaving you to be attacked and destroyed. They are no real shepherds at all, for they don’t search for you. They feed themselves and let you starve.[4] They are leading you into futility, vanity, emptiness and falsity, filling you with futile hopes. Your shepherds speak a vision of their own imagination, making up everything they say. They do not speak for the Lord![5] By telling you their false dreams, they are trying to get you to forget God.[6] 

America, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “I now consider these shepherds my enemies, and I will hold them responsible for what has happened to you.[7] What is your response to the false shepherds and prophets who prophesy falsely, and the priests who rule on their own authority? You love it so! But what will you do when the end comes?[8] America, you are a rebellious, unfaithful and disobedient people! You are foolish and do not know me,” says the Lord. “My people have turned their backs on me and have refused to return. Day after day, year after year, I taught them right from wrong, but they would not listen or obey.[9] You are senseless, stupid children who have no understanding. You are clever enough at doing wrong, but you have no talent at all for doing right!”[10]  

“America, you are full of treachery against me,” says the Lord. “You have lied about the Lord and have said, ‘He won’t bother us! No disasters will come upon us! There will be no war or famine!’”[11] America, when you were prosperous, I warned you, but you replied, ‘Don’t bother me.’ Since childhood you have been that way—you simply will not listen![12] From the day your ancestors left the far off land until now, I have continued to send my prophets to you—day in and day out. But you have not listened to Me or even tried to hear. You have been stubborn and sinful—even worse than your ancestors across the sea.”[13] But America, you have replied, ‘Don’t waste your breath. We will continue to live as we want to, following our own evil desires.’”[14] 

So this is what the LORD says, “Voice of Jeremiah say to the people of America, ‘This is the nation whose people will not obey the Lord their God and who refuse to be taught and accept correction! Truth has vanished from among them; it is no longer heard on their lips![15]’” 

The Voice of Jeremiah’s plea. O America, the judgment hand of Almighty God is coming down upon you! Repent, mourn your sin, and turn back to God before it is too late!
