America, I am the Voice of Jeremiah, called to prophesy against you! I have received from the LORD my official commission as a prophet of God and He has told me I am facing a exceedingly difficult task—to warn you of the terrible impending judgment of Almighty God! The LORD calls me “son of man” for I am human and mortal.[1] In fear and trembling I, humbly, lie on my face in the dust before Him.[2] But my LORD God says there is a time to fall down in humble adoration and there is a time to stand up and take orders.[3] Now is the time to stand and listen! So it is by the command of the Word of God and the power of the Spirit that I am enabled and strengthened to rise to my feet and stand obediently before the LORD and listen to His Word.
America, it is the Spirit that lifts me up[4] and gives me special power for my tasks![5] I have beheld the glory of the LORD and I am greatly overwhelmed! Who but the LORD can move as He pleases? Who but the LORD can accomplish His great purposes?
America, the LORD has not only called me to warn you of His future judgment, but also to bring you His message of hope and forgiveness and deliverance in Jesus Christ.[6] You need to hear the message of God because you are a stiff-necked, and hardhearted people. You have revolted against the LORD! You have steadfastly remained obstinate in your refusal to submit to His will! You are a wicked and rebellious generation!
America, the LORD has warned and admonished me to not be afraid of you! Thus says the LORD, “Do not be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you.[7] Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be afraid of Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.[8] I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear?[9] Now get up and prepare for action! Go out and tell them everything I tell you to say. Do not be afraid of them, or I will make you look foolish in front of them. I, the Lord, have spoken!”[10]
America, I am called by the LORD to declare the Word of God boldly no matter how you respond! Though you will act like briars and thorns, and even like painful scorpions, that will not deter me, the LORD’s servant, from bringing you the LORD’s message![11] America, because of your obstinate rebellion, the message of the LORD does not have any good news. It is a message filled with “lamentations, mourning and woe!”[12] It is a message of God’s impending judgment upon you!
America, the LORD has shown me the hardness of your hearts and it is a painful and sorrowful sight. But I have also seen the glorious throne of the sovereign LORD. I now know that I have all the help I need to obey His will.[13]
America, I prophesy against you, and I do it all for the glory of God!
